'98 FLSTF gas tank problem
I have a '98 Fat Boy. For years I have had problems with sputtering. Took her in to several shops and dealerships. No answer. Finally I had a shop drain the tank. There were huge pieces of some foreign material at the bottom of the tank. They were able to break up the pieces and get them out. HD used to coat the inside of their tanks with something that has been sloughing off for years causing the sputtering problems. I know the only fix is a new tank. My question is: HD knows about this, does anybody know how I can get them to replace the tank or some form of reimbursement? I am not the first person who has had this problem. Shops know about this and tell me to go to HD.

I would start with your local dealer. See what they say. If you are not satisfied, see if you can get a hold of customer service.
I am not sure how far you will get, the bike is 9 years old. It's worth a try, butdon't be surprised if you don't get a replacement/reimbursment.
