Default Engine Over Heat

I was doing some local riding this weekend and it was 91 deg out. I was not at Hway speeds. some traffic lights and minor traffic. I was asking myself what is too hot and what will happen when it gets there. As I felt the heat jumping off the side to my legs at stops I said I better find a way to get moving. In the end I did and the bike never showed signs of issues. But what are the limits of these modern bikes? What can they take and for how long? And what will happen when that goes too far?

Your bike should have the EITMS that shuts off the rear cylinder at idle if the bike is too hot. Make sure that it is activated. Generally as long as you are moving at more than a walking pace the bike will be able to regulate its heat.
