Question
I just bought my first bike and it is a 2007 FXSTC Softail. I have been driving it for several days without issues.
A few days ago I drove it for about a hour stopped for a hour got back on and when I took off in first it was idling very high, shifting to other gears was ok but first was extremely high idle.
I did the reset of the throttle thinking that was the issue. It still is idling high in first but it appears when I down shift it is not down shifting from second to first. I let out the clutch and it does not sound like it shifts. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Did you buy it privately or from a dealer? If you bought it from a dealer...take it back and have them look at it. Does your throttle snap back when released(bike not running). Take your air cleaner off and look at your butterfly to see if it is closed when @ rest. Twist the throttle a couple times and look again. I might just need lubed.
I did buy it from a small shop that is licensed dealer that is 2.5 hours from where I live. I am going to take it back there to have him check it but wanted to see if it was something simple before taking it back on the road for that distance
Thank you
Thank you
Like mentioned above, take a small light and peer back behind air filter and make sure you see the throttle body snap to the stop. There are a (safety)push and pull cables. Should be a little free rotation in the throttle grip on stop. The stop screw is seen at top left in picture. However, do not adjust here and leave screw alone since it is a calibrated air bleed. Computer does idle with IAC valve. If the cables are out of adjustment, they will keep it off stop and have high idle however.
Also, do not start in gear. If it jumps fwd a little, somehow, that will confuse the IAC valve and it will lose 200 rpm and be that high.
The shift problem is due to idle. Get idle right and shift will be OK.
