Default Fuel Tank removal.

I want to change the headlamp on my BO but the connector block is under the tank. Removing the tank is a pain in the ***. Why don't HD fit small valves to the crossover pipe to save fuel leaking everywhere. I have managed to lift the tank on my last 2 bikes to do the job but the BO seems different, everything is more crammed in.
Has anyone done this without removing the tank?

Easy job to drain the gas.
What I do is just siphon out as much as I can, then using needle-nose vise grips, pinch the hose at each ends close to the tank elbows.
Then using diagonal cutting pliers, snip the center clean through.
Then I can just direct each hose into a funnel or a larger hose, into a gas can.

Barely spilled a drop last time. (and it helps if the bike is pointing slightly downhill...)
You just have to get a new piece of fuel line - about $1.
Small price to pay for not making a mess.

Still, the connector for the headlight ought to be fairly close to the front of the tank - usually just lifting it (as you're doing) is all you need to do.
At least it works that was on my Slim...

You might try loosening the mounting hardware and sliding the tank back a little bit, had to do this on our '12 Heritage to do some wiring for the Aux lights.

Remove seat and then the rear tank bolt and front tank bolt. Remove the fuel line quick disconnect and lift the tank to gain access to the harness. You shouldn't have to remove the tank.
