Default Breakout Sissy bar is awful.

Really struggling with riding two up. The sissy bar pad is too far forward and reduces the pillion seat length by 2 inches. Does anyone know of a kit that moves the sissy bar back on the side plates? I've looked at the reclinable side plates but I don't think they will help that much. It's the standard HD sissy bar and pad as in pic.

Can't be of any help, I guess...but simply take it off. And why not take the pillion seat off all the same

I guess I would have to see someone on it because it looks fine to me in your pic. If the passenger sits further back they will be sitting on the thinner part of the seat. At the back there appears to be almost no padding and that doesn't seem like it would be comfortable for the pass.

Is the current setup uncomfortable for you or them?

That's very true! The rear part of the pillion seat has almost no padding at all. The passenger will sit on and feel the base plate through the thin foam.

That's why I got my pillion seat reworked by a local upholsterer adding more padding, a gel insert and a wider shape. With the stock seat my OL would start complaining after 30 minutes...now she's good for at least 2 hrs...w/o sissy bar.

Both of us. I have to sit further forward which means my legs are more upright and really ache. I shall have to get an extension kit for the foot controls. On my old FXSTC the sissy bar pad face was level with the back of the seat but on the BO its over the end of the seat. Just need it a couple of inches further back. I'm 6' but have quite long legs. My pillion also finds it really uncomfortable as the footpegs seem to be set further back. I've ordered a set of pillion pegs extenders to hopefully fix this. If I take the sissy bar off everything is way better. She went on the back of my mates Sportster 48 earlier and that had loads more room as the pegs are further forward. I'm determined to get it right as just love the bike.

We had the same problem, her sitting closer to me and her legs rubbing my sides raw. So I took the sissy bar pad off. Apparently she doesn't lean on the bar, so no pad and a bare bar is not a problem for her.

Same here, it is to thick, and pushes the wife to far forward. I did the same. I took the pad off. She just has the bar back there so she doesn't slide off for some reason. I only put it on when she rides anyway.
