Good idea about the throw-away clothes. Maybe this is my chance to get rid of all those old ratty t-shirts my girlfriend complains about.

I thought about printing out the driving directions and having them laminated on one page/strip. Then I could tape them to my center tank panel for easy use. Either that or tape them around my forearm for quick glances while on the road. I don't want to miss any exits and it'll be hard to memorize it all.

A lot of tank bags have a clear plastic top, and you can place you map in it, for quick glances down as you ride along. You don't want stuff taped to your jacket or bike, do you?? (Particularly if you run into foul weather...) Also will give you a bit more room to spread stuff around. Pack light. Take only the ESSENTIALS, and balance your load. (My rule of thumb is to pack everything I THINK I'm going to need, and then to throw half of it back into the closet!! LOL) Once you've finalized your kit list, I'd also recommend taking a few hours to practice loading the bike, to get the best setup, and to also become proficient at it. You don't want to start every morning with a nice little load of road rage, pulling out of the hotel parking lot, because you've had to dick around with your luggage for the umpteenth day in a row! The wife & I are planning a 20th anniversary trip from Edmonton to Tombstone, AZ and back, for this summer. We can't wait!! Sounds like you've got a great trip planned there. Have fun, and keep her safe!!

Won't need much in the way of clothes if staying at motels that are used to bikers. A lot will have washers and dryers on site.
Don't forget
Sunscreen
Advil, Tylenol, whatever
Tums, Rolaids
Eye drops
Chapstick
I bring extra bulbs and spark plug

Do you wear contacts? Wife wears disposales. We always pack a set in the tool bag in the sissy bar for quick access. Couple them with a tiny bottle of saline and case.

You can mail home **** that you buy on the trip and dirty clothes to lighten the load along the way.

For what it's worth...I disagree with the post that said to ride Deal's Gap on the weekend in order to get your pic taken by Killboy. There are WAY too many crotchrockets out there on the weekends...and they WILL pass you illegally. If it's your first time, do it on a weekday, take your time and go at a nice, comfortable pace...it's a challenging section of road. Killboy (as well as a few other pro photographers)is out there taking pics practically every single day...including weekdays. I should know, because I did it on a Wednesday and have the pic to prove it. In my opinion, the Cherohala Skyway is a much more enjoyable road than Deal's Gap. Beautiful scenery, nice elevation changes, long sweeping curves with some spectacular overlooks. As far as packing goes...I always pack extra socks & underwear...those are the two clothing items that you don't want to run low on, if for some reasoncan't do laundry. Especially if you run into wet weather...nothing worse than having to wear wet socks and undies with nothing dry to change into. Jeans you can getaway with wearing 2 days in a row..unless they are really grimy and bug-covered.You'll probably buy a few t-shirts along the way, so no need to pack too many of those. I always pack a pair of comfortable shoes (sneakers) to wear when I'm done riding for the day. Feels great to take those boots offand put on something comfy after a long day of riding. Have a safe and great trip!
