Default How to replace kickstand...?

Do I need a stand to do this. I have a floor jack and I was thinking of just jacking it up enough to get the stand off the floor to do it. Replacing it with a 1" under. Anyone done this?

Have had to take my stand off before to put on my foot clutch for my jockey shift. Very straight forward job. Take the spring off with a pair of needlenose, or a spring puller. Then take the bolt off on the top of the kickstand. Then put the new one on and go reverse order to put it back together. 15 minute job at best. And yes, a floor jack should do the trick!

You can do it with someone leaning the bike upright.

If you have a trailer, you can use ratchet straps to hold the bike up securely

Doing this on a motorcycle jack is fine. Go to you tube and view several videos available. They will show you a very simple and safe way to perform this job without using a "pliers" to remove the spring. You will loosen the nut that holds the stand through the pivot and unlock the stand and rotate it forward to release the tension and disassemble. You then use the stand to "lever" back and put tension back on the spring. When you search you tube use: side stand or jiffystand.

You don't have to wrestle the spring off & on with pliers. IF you remove the lock tab first, then slowly ease the stand forward, the spring will pop off.

Theres a video of the guy doing it somewhere.

^^ Crap beat me to it while I was typing.

HA! found the video.

A few words of caution...the jiffy is under spring tension and once you take the locking tab off the top it can easily and quickly spring forwards striking your fender with a good deal of velocity. Been there, done that.
