S-Series - Home Base
Once I arrive, the entire luggage and rack, plus windshield can stay in the hotel.
The bike is stripped and ready for cruising in my former home town.
PS. The bike was superb. It handled the ride without even the slightest hiccup.
Also, Highway 20 from the Georgia/Alabama border to Birmingham is insane. Almost everyone drives 90 and 95 mph. I fell in behind a newer Lexus and had some sustained 110 mph sections. We even hit 120 at one point. If you slow to 80mph, you better get over to the right.

Cool, so just wondering - what kind of mpg did you get?
I'll bet the section of I40 between Memphis & Little Rock sucked.
(it always does)
thanks,
T.
Also tried to install the black solo rack. I have docking kits and spools all over from my Springers. the frame hasn't changed so they should bolt right up..... right? Wrong!. the SlimS dimension are about a 1/4" different, so I'll have to get the correct docking hardware. I figured that would be the easy part of the day...

Yes, i40 west of Memphis almost to Little Rock sucks. Half of it is under construction, and the other half sorely needs it. To make it worse, i rolled through Memphis at about 0600, so the sun was in my eyes for two hours.
On the bright side, i40 through North Lillie Rock was great. Sweeping curves, no sun but still some light, and light Sunday evening traffic. In fact, all the way past Ft. Smith was fast cruise control territory.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
That last stretch was from 2200 to midnight with almost no traffic. Deer watch in the Ozark foothills kept me wide awake.
When I bought the bike, i was looking at the HD detachable luggage rack. It's about 10" x 6" and just big enough to hold a small bag similar to a sportbike tail pack. For $200 plus $35 for the detach spools on the fender struts, I figured I could do better.
So I bought the spools and a spare set of the detach clamps for $85.
Then I went to Lowes and bought 3/4" square aluminum tubing, 1/2" square tubing, aluminum angle, aluminum flat stock; and a bunch of screws, locknuts and washers. About $40.
The cases came from Amazon for right at $150.
All in I have $275 in a system that carries a hell of a lot more than the HD rack that is little more than decorative.
This setup is ugly, but entirely detachable. Four days of clothes and extra riding gear, plus "My Precious" travel bass that I plug into my iPad and headphones for practice, song writing and jam-time.
Plus I wanted to add a picture of my buddy Wayne who is closing in on 20 years of service. I took him to lunch and had to get a pic of him in full BDU posing on the Slim.
