That last stretch was from 2200 to midnight with almost no traffic. Deer watch in the Ozark foothills kept me wide awake.

When I bought the bike, i was looking at the HD detachable luggage rack. It's about 10" x 6" and just big enough to hold a small bag similar to a sportbike tail pack. For $200 plus $35 for the detach spools on the fender struts, I figured I could do better.
So I bought the spools and a spare set of the detach clamps for $85.
Then I went to Lowes and bought 3/4" square aluminum tubing, 1/2" square tubing, aluminum angle, aluminum flat stock; and a bunch of screws, locknuts and washers. About $40.
The cases came from Amazon for right at $150.
All in I have $275 in a system that carries a hell of a lot more than the HD rack that is little more than decorative.

This setup is ugly, but entirely detachable. Four days of clothes and extra riding gear, plus "My Precious" travel bass that I plug into my iPad and headphones for practice, song writing and jam-time.

Plus I wanted to add a picture of my buddy Wayne who is closing in on 20 years of service. I took him to lunch and had to get a pic of him in full BDU posing on the Slim.

Function trumps aesthetics when it comes to road trips IMO.....the old WLAs weren't the prettiest machines once outfitted....but they got the job done..... Enjoy the adventure my friend....wished I wasn't so enslaved to my job right now that I could take some road trips....hopefully this summer we'll be loading the bikes into the RV and heading out to southern Utah and beyond for a few weeks.....

Glad you had a safe trip SLV. I will be ordering some Leather pro quick release saddle bags, hopefully this week, for my groups trip this summer, down to Tennessee.

Anyone considered or actually changed to a springer front end on their Slim S?

SLV, your side cases look like clamshell types.
These might work pretty good and look cool.
Pelican top load 1430 case in OD green.

Don't cheap out. Get a quality springer... The Fl's from the Crossbones or Springer classics will bolt right up provided you get the abs part figured out.

Worth a look. I prefer the black though.

Default Really needs some input from as many S owners as possible

2017 Fatboy S, purchased in January. When I went to the dealer to get the bike I noticed they had it in the corner with a tender plugged in to the wall, but NOT plugged in to the bike. After a couple of weeks started to notice that the bike would hang in the morning when starting. It would make about one rotation, hang, two rotations, start. I figured "bad battery, I will change it when it gets worse". Not the first time I bought a new bike with a crap battery.

This morning, riding to work, got stuck BAD traffic; bike is cooking. So I turn it off during the red light. Light changes to green and I go to start it and these two things happened almost simultaneously:
1. Motor turns one rotation and hangs.
2. Loud bang in the primary as if it was struck full force with a ball-peen hammer.
Still holding the start button, and nothing is happening. Released the button and pressed it again, bike starts without issue.

This is my fourth Harley Davidson, third Twin Cam, and I swear this bike RUNS rougher than any other Twin Cam I have had or rode. I am planning on taking it in for a look, but i know damned well I am going to get told that "we couldn't recreate the issue, starts fine for us". So have any of you S 110 owners had any issues starting/cranking/running, anything? Thanks in advance for your input.

On Mindies Slim S I found the bigger motor and increased compression make it slightly harder to start than my other Twin Cams. I always leave her bike on the tender. Increased electronics seem to drain it quicker, and it needs a completely full battery to crank it.

My feeling is HD has been using the same battery since the 90's
