Been a while since I looked at my original set up but I thought that the Luggage rack that I got for the Sissybar with quick detach plates actually wrapped the tubes of the sissy bar. I'll have to check now

Well, again, I'll have to check but I believe that Badlands is right. I think it attaches to the square tube on the quick detach plates that accept the Sissy bar tube.

yes, the rack attaches to the inside of the squares that the sissy bar drops into. the bolts however thread into the sissy bar upright. what i want to know is can i just try and put some nuts on the inside and skip the sissy bar all together?

Sounds like you could, just have to find the right Nut for inside the tube, lower it with a magnet to hold it till you grab the thread. Right ? Seems Doable

Should probably try and get Square nuts cause you won't be able to get any kind of Wrench in there. This way if your lucky, the size of the square nut will lock up against the walls of the tube and you can tighten it up easily. Just make sure you use some Loctite.

good call but already picked up some regular locking nuts. will let you know how it goes. in the past i have just wedged a flat tip screwdriver for the nut not to turn in other applications.
