Default Drpped bike on Crash Bars

Well been reading all the posts about dropped bikes and I am a firm believer that if you ride a bike one day you will drop it. Happened to me recently wasn't concentrating on riding my Road King - only doing about 10 mph and a car stops right in front of me to turn right I yanked on the front brake and the bike slid on the wet road and I dropped it on the front and rear crash barswhich was the only damage other than of course my pride. The chrome on the crash bars was scuffed on both of them and it came to about$600 to replace them both -(I am in the UK and we pay exhorbitant prices for everything). I of course learnt a lesson here my fault entirely and I will hopefully NEVER repeat this. I was however wondering about if there are any aftermarket crash bar protectors made that would fit just on the contact areas of the crash bars for just such spills. My bars were totally OK other than the cosmetic scratching of the chrome. It would seem sense to me to be able to replace a bolt on bit rather than the whole crash bar.

Yup, I saw this the other day. A guy had bolted a kind of bracket on. It looked a little out of place although not too bad, but out of place enough for me to ask him what it was.

He said that it was just covering up a dent and a load of scratches that he’d had by dropping the bike. He had done the same thing to the other side. Didn’t look too bad.

You’d have to find something curved or slightly curved, as that’s the place you’d need it on the crash bar.

Come to think of it, you could easily fab something, ....... that would make a damn good seller. I'd buy a set if it didn't look too bad.

What about a nice looking reflector strip, just big enough to cover the damaged area.

Were they damaged so badly that you couldn't have them re-chromed? Would have been a lot less than $600.00.

Good point Kurt - I am probably going to have them powder coated black to match the Vivid Black of the bike. I will then refit them for winter use and keep the chrome ones for summer.

Hey, what a novel idea, a crash protector forthecrash protector. Next you'll be wanting a crash protector to protect the crash protector protecting the crash protector.

Bad luck there for you buddy but hey at least you werent hurt.

The moustache guard that HD makes has a rubber-type strip were your feet go,wouldnt be too hard to get a similar type strip on the outside of the engine guard in proportion to the other black rubber strip.

Just thinking out loud....

If the guards are not bent then I would not rush off to replace them for a few scratches.

Think of them as "road tatoos".
