The biggest and best thing I like about a HD over the metrics is the fact you can customize your bike anyway you want. There are piles and piles of aftermarket goodies for these bikes.... nothing at all like a metric. Not to mention the performance gains to be had on a HD over a metric is insane. I will admit though... I find it pretty $hitty that HD offers such low numbers in HP and Torque when compared to everything else.... especially the Victory bikes.... which is what my brother rides. lol

This is another reason I'm straying away from metrics. There is just soooo much out there for a HD cycle. When I had my Honda, I was limited or I would have to use Harley Davidson stuff for certain ideas. Lol

Like a previous poster said, I voted for the Fatboy when I made my first HD purchase a few months ago. I too use it to commute to work when I go into the office so I needed some versatility. With bags and a windshield on it, it does the trick quite well. On the other hand I can remove those and feel a little more sporty when I feel the urge. Enjoy the hunt!

Yes. Commuted to work on my Fatboy today (casual Friday, so I could wear motorcycle clothes instead of a suit) and I had a spring in my step all day.

I had a 02 VTX1800C when I got my 07 FXSTC in Aug 06. The Softail was so much better at distance riding and overall feel that I got rid of the VTX the next year.

I did set them up to look like brothers.

Depends on your taste, your riding style, your riding distances, your physical size.
See a pattern here? It's YOUR decision. Only YOU can know what suites YOU.
Good luck with YOUR choice.

Honestly you should take the advice of the majority and ride more from the other lines. If you're tall forward controls on any of the Dyna models will be extended much further. The A rubber mounted motor in my opinion is way better than what's in the softails(B). I feel like there is much more to change on dynas to get them the way you want. What I mean by that is my slim felt like a much closer to what I wanted the bike to be in stock form.

Default Harley buyer now

I have rode
motorcycles for 44 years and have had many including the VTX 1800. Bought a 2015 Classic on Labor Day and absolutely love it. I also know why people buy Harleys now. It just feels right.

As many have already said... Test ride them all and re-test again till you know for sure.
You've listed several requirements, your big fat **** bein one I would consider first.
My personal choice are any and all of the softy lofties.
All I need is a stripped down loud as all hell hard tail bobber for those short local rips and I'm good.
I know what I like. It ain't hard to figure it out once the venom's in your blood.
