'08 FXSTC Pivot Shaft Replacement

Has anyone replaced the pivot shaft on your bike? I need to replace mine; guy at the local Harley shop said to raise the bike on a lift until the rear tire is just touching the ground, then pull the shaft. It looks like the shaft is about the only thing holding the rear fork on the bike. I'm afraid the whole rear assembly is going to slip out of alignment and I won't be able to get the new shaft in. Has anyone done this?

the swing arm has a little pressure holding it in once the shaft is removed. if your worried about it slide a dowel in as you remove the old one.

There are shouldered collars that hold the swingarm in position when you pull the pivot shaft out. take a look at a schematic and you will see what I am talking about. I literally did this on my bike yesterday, albeit with nothing on the rear end as I was reinstalling my naked swingarm.
