making the switch
Well, have finally decided that I want to trade up from my Sporty 1200C. Afer looking at various options, I am going to be 'shopping' for a Heritage Classic. So, am asking for some guidance as to what I need to be aware of when shopping. I know that I want to upgrade the pipes before she even has one mile on her - and am leaning toward the VH either straighshots or big shots. Other suggestions, comments would be appreciated. I am one of those types that likes to walk in with all the necessary research/info done before I even talk to a salesperson.
Thanks in advance.

I like the dual exhaust (Springer type) on the Classic, give it , well, a classic look. I put Samson's true dual on my Heritage Classic.
You didn't mention new or used? Hard to find a new Heritage Classic around here (IN), but always a few nice low mile used ones. Saw an '03 with a few thousand miles for $18k with lots chrome. I paid exactly MSRP for a new one and got 20% off accessories prior to delivery.

Annie,
My wife went from a Lowrider to a Heritage, and she is very happy with it. Her only complaint is that it touches down real soon in the curves, especially on the right side.
If you are really into agressive riding you might want to keep that in mind where the Softails are concerned. If you just cruise, the Heritage is great. The center of gravity lets them almost stand up by themselves, and you sit way "down" in the bike, and not on it. That is what my wife likes best about it, besides the great looks.
Regards,
Bill

Made a deposit yesterday on an 06 Heritage Classic - only question that I still need to figure out is - what pipes?
SE? VH Longshots/Bigshots? Pythons? Have the SE IIs on my Sporty and SEI on the wide glide - like the SEI sound, but looking for something just a tad bit louder. But not too loud because i don't want to **** of the neighbors. Any and all suggestions welcomed at this point since i have til next Friday to make my decision.
Another thing - I keep seeing on posts that the floorboards touch ground in curves...any adjustments that can be made to that that I can have done prior to delivery?

I can't help on the exhaust but you are making a nice choice in the Heritage. Please post pictures when you get your new ride. The Heritage is the most Harley you can get for your money.

Don't worry about the boards scraping. If you scrape 'em, you'll adjust. There is no adjustment on them as they come from the MoCO, but my motto is, "anything can be modified." There are some floorboard kits made to replace the FXST foot pegs that can be adjusted forward, backward, up, or down. With a little imagination and a bit of work, they are easily adapted to the FLST bikes.
As far as pipes, well, I'm a bit different. Id try a 2 into 1 header pipe with a 36 inch straight fishtail extension. They look "authentic" on a Heritage, and have a completely different sound than any other pipe.

I have had two Heritages and several other Softail models. The bike I ride now is a 2001 Heritage and I love it.
As for exhaust. I do not like the V&H Straight Shots. I tried a set on another one of my softails and my current bike had a set on it when I bought it used. The V&H Straight Shots have a terrible rebibrating sound when cruising. I could never get them to smooth out. They drove me crazy.
I like the "Hard Krome" pipes, especially the long ones. They have a great sound and offer good performance. I have used them on four of my bikes so far.
