Just completed several searches on this issue, no luck. 2011 Heritage, 21K. Riding and speedo/console backlight will go out and stay out. I tap on the speedo bezel area a couple times it will come back on for a few miles and go out again. The digital display, engine warning lights and speedo all read fine. Any tips on console removal to access connections or lamp or grounds. Any advice on what to look for and what's involved in taking console loose to look at things?
It would seem that that year does not have a serviceable bulb within the speedometer housing.
I used this link to review: http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.....asp?make=hdmc
This is a link on how to open a speedometer.
i have a 2011 heritage and on my bike the speedometer light inly illuminates at night or low light conditions.must have a sensor or something because when i ride it into my garage during the day it comes on when in the garage.hope this helps.when i first got it in 2011 i thought it was malfunctioning and showed the dealer who had no clue turns out it does have a sensor and only illuminates in low light conditions

I had heard this on a post last year. I was never able to confirm this feature. My light will come back on while night riding if I tap on the console or bezel. I would't think tapping would affect issue if it was a sensor, but may be another item to look at.
