Open filter in a heavy rain that doesn't have an oil film on it? What do you think? I'd pull over and cover it. I like K&N with the oil film, with the wind it doesn't saturate like gauze in he rain.
Personally, I pull over and park it in heavy rains, cover the filter with that plastic Wal-Mart bag I keep in the tool bag. *grinz

I hear you loud and clear, but these air cleaners are gargantuan and lets face it, I'd rather show more motor than those speaker like housings

I've never had a problem with my Heavy Breather and the rain. I've been in some down pours and apparently there's not that much water getting into it, enough to cause it to run bad.

The downside of riding in the rain with an exposed filter is that some of the dirt in the filter will get washed through into the engine. Not that the gauze-type filters do a very good job of keeping dirt out of the engine anyway.

Yea they are huge and many aftermarket ones are way overpriced imho.
I am considering one of these for my scoot but would like to re-route the breather to vent outside instead of the intake.
The DK designs look ok too and reasonably priced.

I have also been considering making a custom one.

Those are a lot bigger in person than they appear here. I had one. Can't for the hell of me recall what type of filter element was included

I've got a Heavy Breather and been caught out a bunch of times in the rain. I keep my rain sock in my jacket but usually I don't even bother pulling over to put it on. Bike has always run fine. I've also had the bike sitting out in the rain while at work...don't know it's raining so again...no sock. The oil did a good job keeping water out of the filter element.

Even running no filter, the amount of heat generated from the motor will evaporate before it damages anything inside. Heavy rain though I'd say pull over. Saying that I've ridden through heavy rain with no filter and it never missed a beat. I wouldn't park it in heavy rain though
