Default Air intake question.

Ok I am new to the Harley world so this may be a dumbass question. I want to get rid of the nasty air filter housing on my 15 fatboy lo. I want to get something similar to the Vance and Hines Matt Black...My question is what do you guys do when it rains? That much water can't be good getting sucked into the motor.

You can use a rain sock which is basically a piece of panty hose.

Its not a big deal. I have been biking since 1991 on HD's and they didn't even have rain socks then and we were running S&S carbs and I never heard of anyone blowing a bike up. I don't even use my rain socks unless I am travelling and I will be hours and hours in the rain.

I've got the Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather intake and I just ride it without the sock. The only time I put the sock on is when I wash my bike to avoid saturating the filter with water. No problems yet.

the oil soaked gauze helps keep most of if not all of it out.
Now if you ran with an open intake, then that would cause issues due to water mixin with fuel.

My main concern is if it rains while at working it sits in the rain for hours.

that's the least of your worries since there's no vacum effect. But yeah. I'll cover mine if it's just sitting in pouring rain.
I ride in the rain and never really noticed a problem with the reusable filters.

Do you plan on riding in the rain a lot? I mean, being new to Harley's and all?

I have rode sport bikes for about 12 years, would not be the first time in the rain. However in the sport bike world we kept our air filters covered.

Would be cool to have our harley intakes shrouded by an air box that was hidden so that it didnt cover those beautiful jugs
