Default 02 Heritage fall away adjustment

Wife has an 02 Heritage and I noticed that with the bike on a stand with front tire off ground the bars will fall all the way to the left or right with out holding center at all. If the bars are held center and then you let go they will either fall left or right, will not stay centered. Normal, or should I be adjusting the bearings? No wobble while riding.

Seen that on a search before posting. Looking through the manual it does seem that the wheel should stay straight and then fall away after 1 to 2 inches. Never seemed right that the wheel would fall to one side or the other and not stay straight. Bike does not travel straight when letting go of the bars also. Going to adjust and then check wheel front to back alignment also. Bought the bike last year and it's always been this way.

You will find that many people have mentioned that the bike pulls left when letting go of the bars. This is normal but many people have tried to (or successfully) corrected it by adjusting the wheel alignment. It is attributed to the weight distribution of the bike from side to side. The heavy primary sticking further out on the left side. Installing true duals (putting an exhaust pipe onto the left side) can exacerbate the pull as well.

My opinion is that the fall away and pulling to one side you describe is normal. If you aren't experiencing any symptoms or problems it may be best to leave well enough alone. There is certainly no harm in checking it though.

I concur; my Heritage pulls to the left slightly.
I put my tool bag in my right saddlebag and that seemed to help.
