Squeaking noise when downshifting

Default Squeaking noise when downshifting
I have a squeaking noise that sounds like it is coming from the left side of the bike when I downshift. It does it at the high rpm's at the top end of the downshift. As the rpm's drop the squeak stops. If I engage the clutch it stops. It almost sounds like a squeaky belt on a car. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? Thanks for your help. Mike

Easy way to check if it's the belt. Spray some fan belt dressing on it and take it for a spin. My 99 Heritage had the squeek on decel and the belt dressing was the only thing that would cure it.

thanks everyone. i'll check my belt. i guess i don't get it tho, why would it go away when i pull the clutch in. belt is still turning..

It relieves the pressure on it when the clutch is in. Like your fan belt in a car, it squeels when your on it but when idling or cruising its quiet though still turning.
