How can I determine what size pulley is on my bike? Thanks!

So I talked with Randy, a tech at Southern Motorcycle Works today. He gave me some useful info. With the Rocker, and Breakout, they can make any of their pulleys up to 70t. Their 72t are available for models that run a different belt, and I want to keep the stock belt. I like their wheels, I saw a set of one of the "3D Cut" models on a bike locally a while back, and they looked awesome!! I want a matching pulley and rotors, so it looks like I'll go 70t..He said they come with a 5/16" pulley spacer if you order a wheel/pulley/rotor package, or you can order the pulleys and spacers separately... also you can use your STOCK axel spacer!! I wont have to mill it down or find a new one, so that's good. Their matching wheels, pulleys and rotors are all built to order and are currently shipping in 3-4 weeks. Now I just need to decide which ones I'm going with and place my order!!

Sarah you have a 32t front pulley and a 66t rear pulley. HD did the lame "epa friendly" pulleys on all bikes 2007 and up. these pulleys are 9% too damn tall for the 6 speed and make the bike feel a bit pokey. it is also why you can do 168mph in 6th gear before redline.. LOL!

Anyway, the hot ticket is to replace the front pulley with a 30t and the rear with a 68t or 70t. or if you have the room like you probably do, swap the rear only for a 72t pulley and keep the stock 32t front pulley. it will all fit with the stock belt.
You'll be quite amazed with the added pep your bike picks up. 9% more TQ to the rear wheel is significant. this does not mean your motor gets 9% more powerful, it only means the torque multiplier is increased at the secondary drive (belt pulleys), and the total amount of multiplied torque at the wheel is increased by 9% (30/68 or 32/70) and 13% (30/70). your freeway rpms are still very tame, no high revving. see the drive ratio sticky at the top of the softail forum - check out page 1. this is also a very complimentary upgrade to go with cam / engine upgrades.

that is cool- I wonder if they used forged billet? I'm curious what they meant by "different belt" on the 72 pulley- different tooth and pitch? different width? would be good to know.

the only pulley so far that requires milling the diameter of the axle spacer down are PM pulleys because they use their own fancy spacer. it is very unusual but not a deal breaker as long as you know what to expect (which we now know due to Jim unfortunately finding that out for us!).
Every other pulley mfr leaves the axle hole the correct standard size (Ness, DNA, others).

I think he said the Rocker and BO both use 20mm?? but he didn't say what mm the 72 is used for?? I assumed he meant width.. I can find out when I talk to them again...and it says their wheels are cut from USA made heat treated billet 6061 aluminum, not sure on pulleys, I can find out...I guess I can look around for a 72t from another source, that would look good with which ever wheels I pick, but I think worse case, a 70t will be a nice improvement..

All model year of Rocker uses a 1" belt. So you can go with a 1" pulley or a 1-1/8" pulley. basically any pulley 1" or wider works. all 70t pulleys are typically cut 1-1/8" width. the included 5/16" spacer should be good. if you are running a wider 260 then you may need a 3/8" spacer otherwise you'll have belt to tire contact when walking the bike backwards more than 10ft.

The thing is, my pulley is not the original. It is from Wicked Image and matches my wheels, as does my rotor. I looked it over and it looks complicated to remove to count the teeth. I was hoping for a tricky way to determine if my previous owner happened to do it.

What size spacer is needed to have the stock distance?? I know it's built into my Rockers and BO's stock pulleys, and that's ok with the 260 tire on the BO, it doesn't rub going back... Would the 3/8" give me a little more clearance on the Rocker?? I figured the 5/16" would get me back to stock specs as far as how far out the pulley sits, like it sits now on both bikes..

Take a look a LA Dogs pulley upgrade sticky, Jim G gave me the size of a 72t when I was trying to figure out if it would fit, I think if you measure the diameter he could tell you how many teeth it has, worth asking him, he would love to do the math... or if you have a tach LA Dog might be able to tell you, by what rpm your doing at what speed??
[EDIT] Just thought of this.. if your belt guard has not been raised (doesn't look like it in your pics) it's a stock size 66t..

Mark your first tooth on the outside with a dry erase marker, or a piece of tape or something. And then count ten teeth, and mark it. Then measure the distance, and you can then measure and mark the rest of the way around the pulley, until you don't have a long enough space, count the short space's teeth, and then you know how many teeth you have, takes five minutes or less, you don't have to jack it up or pull anything off...
