Yep, those are the part #'s, different sellers though, and I've got the BDL clutch (which is awesome by the way), so no changes needed there. The cams are the 583C. They also make a 583CE "Easy Start" with a built in compression release, but the bike has ACR (automatic compression release), so it's not needed. The techs at S&S actually told me that the easy start/CE cams should NOT be run in bikes with ACR, even though the ACR can be turned off......

You put the ACRs on your 96? I was thinking you had left your motor stock minus a stage 1 so far. I know with the 103 like the Breakout they came stock with them, but I had always wondered why they never came on the 96 as well, but thankfully they did make them plug and play after a simple flash...
^^^ It had when I got it, guess the previous owner must have installed...EDIT: I assumed I had ACR because my FP3 gave me the option to turn on or off, but I don't see anything to make me think I do. I had wondered why it would, with only 9:2/1 static comp, so makes sense that it doesn't...

Thanks skid, like I said, figured I had them... I just ordered the S&S 583CE "easy start" cams, and I'm returning the 583C's. I think he C's would have been fine for now, but if I go bigger down the road, and bump the compression up, I would need to install compression releases, so the CE's could save me some $$ in the future....Glad you pointed out that the 96ci don't have the ACRs!! I guess my FP3 has the on/off option, for use on bikes where ACRs have been installed....

No worries brother, I'm glad I said something in time to save you some coin man. I put ACRs in my bike when I bumped it up to a 103, but I was obviously pulling the heads anyway. Had I not been, I may have utilized the EZ start cams instead.

Well actually... after looking into it a little deeper, it's back to plan "A" and I'm sticking with the 583C. I called and ended up talking to two S&S techs, and they both said that the 583CE "easy start" cam should NOT be used with my Rockers already low 9:2/1 compression, because they bleed off enough compression, that the bike may not start, and that's at sea level. The problem gets worse at higher altitudes and I live at 2500ft. elevation and ride fairly often up to 6000ft.+......Another reason I wouldn't have wanted them, is I was also told that if using the CE, the idle needs to be set at a minimum of 1000-1100 rpm or the decompression lever in the cam can start clicking, while it's trying to engage....I like my idle set lower, 920+/-
The adjustable push rods and new covers showed up today, so now that I'm keeping the 583c cams, I'm ready to go.....hopefully have them installed
within a week or so!!

Not that I use it very often, I rarely take the Rocker long distances at interstate speeds, but I was glad to see that my HD detachable windshield still fits with the new headlight housing, which sits a little higher than the stocker....
It looks better without it, but I don't think it looks too bad, it's not very noticeable and it does do a good job cutting down the wind, on the rare occasions that I use it!!

Sounds like a plan brother. You can always put some compression releases later if need be. They are pretty quick and easy.
