Took it apart found the gunk. Cleaned it up and all the connections didnt test it yet because I started working on the brakes and found my front wheel bearing shot........
I saw the steps for barrel key ignition contacts cleaning for tank mounted switch what about on a 2004 Roadglide? I had an issue they got me stranded the other day and wondering if this is the issue. Stopped for gas turned bike off. After getting gas turned ignition on and when I hit start it clicked. Turned ignition off then back on and bike is completely dead. Didnt see and blown fuses though. Got it home in trailer. Wierd part is now when I turn ignition on nothin but turn it back off I hear what sounds like fuel pump kick on. Also I noticed with everything off I saw gauges click and move slightly a few times.any ideas?

Never hurts to clean the ignition switch...but Id check your battery cables first to be sure they are tight and clean. I had a similar problem as yours recently, almost stranded me but i took my battery connections loose and retighened them and it started right up. I posted on here and heard that I was not the only one this happened to.
Evidently they can vibrate a little loose and build up resistance. Free to try.
Thank you for resurrecting this thread! I just had this very thing happen to my 08 Heritage Classic and I will either clean the switch per these directions or get a new switch.

Sounds like a totally different issue not related to this thread.
But ignition related non the less.
All this has also messed up your battery because of all the false starts.
Check stator voltage reg.
I might be way off on this as I suck at trouble shooting electrical. But its just a hunch.
Hope you get it all sorted bro
A big thanks to all forum members. I've struggled with an electrical gremlin for months. It can be in the first 5mins or days. Bike just turns off and both indicator lights on the console light up as if you were activating emergency lights when pressing both turn signal buttons.
Sometimes it will click back on before I grind to a halt.
Most times it would restart after a minute or so.
I pulled the ignition switch and cleaned that, still had the problem. Then I checked the engine to chassis earth strap... all good. Checked the battery leads to the battery... all good. Then I thought I'd check the earth from the battery to the frame.... BINGO... that was the problem... yah!!! It was only about half a turn loose with the main earth from the battery and 3 other cables earthing under that. I thought I'd mention this because when I checked the earth lead on the battery, I didn't think to check the connection to the frame. I've come to the conclusion that I'm just a dumb biker and thought I'd mention this fix just in case other people overlook the other end of the earth lead like me.... or am I just SPECIAL Hope this helps....
I had a similar problem...bike stranded me at a meetup, if I hit the starter all lights went out. Wait a few minutes and it would come back to life, but would go dead when I hit the start.
Luckily I carry tools. Decided to check battery cables and turns out the positive was just very slightly loose. Not dirty and way more than finger tight but not real tight. Cleaned it and all good.
Our bikes are finicky with battery connections arent they!
Good idea to check connections during routine maintenance procedures.
