Fair enough, but fatalities in cars are already much lower, and they already have much more safety equipment. What would be a mere fender-bender in a car can easily be a fatality on a motorcycle. Deaths on motorcycles are 15 to 40 times as high as in cars, depending on whose stats you go by.

Absolutely...! Still, many of us choose to ride...... Can you image the reaction if someone, who didn't ride, got on this forum and smugly pointed out what idiots we all are for putting ourselves at 15 to 40 times more risk?

That's the risk/benefit choice we all make.... I readily accept that added risk, in order to enjoy riding my motorcycles.

And yet, motorcyclists will ridicule other motorcyclists, just because they'd rather not have ABS. I doubt that motorcycle deaths are 15 to 40 times higher on non-ABS motorcycles than they are on ABS motorcycles...

It's not just ABS that motorcyclists get on their high horses about:
helmet v no helmet
Car tire v motorcycle tire
Dual front brake v single or no front brake
Frame/geometry mods (old days- raked, extended front ends / today- oversized front wheels) v OEM designs

It just seems a little hypocritical to me to lambast someone for choosing a different level of risk....

I believe debate is awesome and can be very informative. I usually learn more from those who disagree with me than those who agree with me.

It would be great if we see a topic we believe strongly about; We state our position & present our facts... but we should leave the sanctimonious attitude for when admiring ourself in the mirror... That's all I was trying to say...

Just my 2 cents.... Ride whatever you choose, and may we all stay safe!

I can see that. But on the same note, what is the point of making a "thing" about your risk taking? It is a standard feature on a bike. If the guy didn't like it, he could have simply gone the route of getting rid of it and moving on. Except he felt the need to make a public thing about how it looks...and that he has no idea why HD would do it...and that it was just a source of revenue....etc etc etc. He's bitching about a nonissue that he could easily rectify without bitching.

Maybe he was making the point because like it or not...there are others that may/do feel the same way and maybe this would have allowed those to either learn or teach depending on where they were with the modifications...

I personally think everyone coming on here and ridiculing him for his choice is the equivalent of bitching...like a little school girl...but then again that is how *I* see it...

Lastly, this is a forum for people to have discussions....maybe he was opting for a discussion...not a bunch of whiners belittling him or his idea because it didn't work with what they think he should like or do???

just a thought...

OP actually asked questions, bashers just do not see what they do not want to see.

"Whiner" can probably be used pretty evenly throughout this thread for all parties I guess depending on perspective.

I would be concerned about insurance implications in a crash on a bike that has had abs removed. That is a lot different than a bike that didn't come with it to begin with.

I am still riding a carbureted non-Abs non balance shaft solid mounted Softail Evo. It's what I choose.

I am interested in the difference of appearance of abs vs non-abs.
