Cool 2005 Softail Standard FXSTI

Hello;
I have just got a Softail. Replaced my sporty with it. Bright metal flake red with red ghost flames. 88" motor and 5 speed.
I have had some major issues with her in the 3 weeks I have owned her. First the rear shocks came apart. Had to spend 850 bucks to replace them. Now my gas mileage is total garbage. I am getting 26 MPG. The bike is stock except for the Python 2 into 1 exhaust. I dont know if the bike was tuned for the pipes. I am going to take her down to the local HD dealer and have them look into it.

Good lookin sickle, pipe almost looks like a Fat Cat. Get them issues worked out and you'll have a nice ride. Did you go with stock shocks?

$850 for shocks??? Wow! What shocks were put on there?
Get a PCIII from FuelMoto for your performance issues. Something else is going on to get that poor gas mileage.

Yes stock shocks with an inexpensive lowering kit.

Bike is back at the shop for another week. Getting a tune. Apparently according to the service manager, they don tune the bikes up before they sell them. That is ridiculous. Hopefully these idiots will get the bike running properly. 45-50 MPG would be nice.

Dealer here is the same - I had to pay $45 to have my bike checked to see if it was flashed before I picked it up .

what method did you use for gauging your mpg's, other than a full tank?
I'm sure you're aware that by the time the fuel light comes on, there may still be close to 1gal. left in reserve. Optimistically speaking, 170mpg for a total of 4gal's of fuel used isn't at all bad considering it wasn't all achieved in stop and go and several restarts later. In this case you'd be lucky if you managed 140 mi. in my opinion.

I think you should get to a point where you find a good indie.. Sounds like your dealer is not your friend
