I feel really out of the loop, What exactly is a "s" bike. I looked at Harleys site but can't figure it out.

S=Special, Super, Sport, Silly, or what ever you want it to stand for. It's on the MoCo website. Guess you should look a little bit harder.

Less expensive than a CVO but more than regular models, with the most prominent feature being the larger engine.

While the larger engine is appealing, if you use the comparison feature on Harley's site to compare a S model with the standard model of the same bike, even though the engine is larger, the difference in torque is fairly minimal and not as great as you would expect it to be

To me the army themed S model slim is pretty cool, but when I went see the bike at the dealer, it seemed so small and a lot of money for a pretty minimal bike. It used to be that kind of money bought you a lot more bike.

Not that I am interested in buying a new bike since I love my old one, but I was merely curious.

I use the phrase "S bikes" as a shorter and less offensive version of "Sh_tty Bikes"

CVO = all the bells and whistles MOCO can throw at a bike
S model = big motor , slick options MOCO designers figure customers want but not to the extent of the CVO
Dark Custom = MOCO designers given a little freedom to stretch ideas usually blacked out and tweaks to standard models
Standard models = blank canvas they all start from

I went to the dealer to sit on Softails and try different bars... Fatboy, Deluxe, etc. I saw the Softail cvo,... I think it was cvo.. Really cool..
My indie talks me out of changing bars... Swears that 90% of ppl change to taller, not wider bars...
Claims the wider/lower position will fatigue arms, hands, wrists, shoulders, back etc...
I can't spend 1200$ to experiment

There is a S Series home base thread started on the forum. It states:
For the 2016 models, these extras include;
SE 110" motor
High flow intake
Hydraulic clutch
Throttle by wire
Cruise control
A lot of blacked out parts
Special paint scheme on one of the Slim S models.
