Alignment help please
I have a 250 heartland kit on my 05 nighttrain. Switched front wheel no problem rear a different story. My new rim has a different off set.so I have it in place with oem pulley installed and a 1 3/8" spacer pulley side. pulley bolt heads are 1/8" away from frame and my tire on disc side is going to rub dirrectional bolt under fender.they are fender mounted not strut. Not my call came that way. rim needs to go to the left roughly 1/4 to 3/8 inch. So can a hub be milled down and has anyone ran into this? I spoke to heartland they said inside belt edge should be 1/8 from tire edge for perfect alignment. now the next issue if I get hub milled and wheel moves to left I will be going to a 1" spacer between disc and caliper.Is that to far/ can I split the difference and shim caliper 1/2 caliper to frame then 1/2 caliper to disc? this has me wishing I just left the bike alone but I am in it now and just want it right. I am hoping someone can really help me with this.thanks for any and all help.
odd one- can you post up some photos? what brand of wheels and pulley?
normally your right offset will be dictated by the brake rotor / caliper alignment. the left offset will normally use an appropriate length axle spacer to make up the difference- the stock axle spacer should be fine. for the pulley offset, the stock HD pulleys have a 1/4" offset molded onto the back. typically you would need anywhere from 3/8" to 1/2" of outward pulley offset. 1" or more of offset is usually way too much. There are lots of 3/8" to 1/2" spacers on ebay for about $20. you need a spacer for 2000-up HD, and you'll need new length 7/16" 14 bolts at least grade 8. for whatever bolt length you get, you must make sure you have 1" of thread going into the wheel.

You need to post some pics to get some help...without pics I can can already tell you have the wrong hub for what you are trying to do.
While it is totally normal to use spacers to get everything lined up with custom wheels...1 3/8" on the drive side ain't gonna cut it. My understanding is, you already had a wide wheel on there...you just changed brands.
You need to get a hub with the same offset you had before.
that is what I am thinking.The rim that came off the bike on pulley side the pulley mounting service is 1/8" out in front of the rims edge while the new rim same measurement is 1/2' out in front of rims edge. On the disc side the disc mounting service is flush with rims edge and on the new rim 1/2" in from rims edge. Spacer that came out with old rim measures 1 13/16" and the disc side that came out is1/2". As I said 1 3/8 is where I started but when I get the 1/8" to tire from belt that heartland requires the pulley hits swing arm. I am going to try 1 1/2" spacer in the morning and try same process then check clearance to signal nut? If it clears and belt alignment works out then I will be condending with rotor alignment. If it does not work out is milling the pulley side of hub to match the rim removed and option? also pulley is oem 70 tooth,new rim is ultima king spoke I know not the best but I am budgeted and the quality seems at the moment to be above average for the money and required no balancing weights. I can post pics just let me no what you would like to see. Thinking it may work just need the correct combo and advice. thanks for your responses. also the spacers I mentioned that came out of the bike have been verified through heartland as to what comes with there kit for perfect alignment. Just some info as I bought the bike done this way and know the harley dealership who did the work for the guy I got it from. just some history on the bike

OK this is why we need pics...you are talking about a 1 3/8" axle spacer...I thought you were talking a spacer that big on the pulley.
To get what you have to work...you need to mill 3/8" off the pulley side...I would mill it off the pulley if possible rather than the hub...then you need a 1/2" spacer under the rotor. If you had a 1 13/16 axle spacer on the pulley side, you will now need a 1 5/8 axle spacer ...if you had a 1/2" axle spacer on the pulley side...you will now need a 1"...these are all ballpark...you will have to mock it up to verify.

Ok trying to post pics having a little trouble. Computers suck. Going to have to mill pulley down for this to work.should I have a concern about the amount Left on the back of the pulley after milling? It measures 1" of casting on the back now. I do not see a problem strengh wise but though I would pose the question now. Hopefully these pics will post tonight.thanks guys
