Yes you can purchase and attach hardware to the struts. If you're going with an HD backrest and bags, you can order the docking hardware from your local stealer.
You may have to purchase docking hardware for the saddlebag supports that attach to the passenger pegs as well. I had to research the parts I needed, the stealer wasn't much help.
You can also get Leather Pro or Boss bags that are detachable and will work with Harley docking hardware. No passenger peg supports or turn signal relocation needed.
14 Fatboy. Put on the HD detachable sissy / rack (moved my turnsignals.) Then bought aftermarket bags and EZ Brackets (great bike gear) and it all fits perfectly. And the bags go on and off in seconds leaving behind stainless/polished studs.

That should take you to my pics. There's several showing the bags and the posts with the bags off. The EZ Bracket I got from GreatBikeGear. They basically replace whatever mounting hardware your bags came from. The bags I got from Viking. They're rigid and locking. I know some have had issues with Viking in the recent past, but when I bought these almost 2 years ago I had zero issues. And I'd buy the same bags again right now if I needed bags. Any other q's just let me know.
