Hey guys, me again.... So I'm putting my rear head back on. I mixed up the push rods..... Looking at the service it says there's a silver rod and a black one. They both are dark.... Ones just a bit lighter I'm guess that's "silver". Does it matter if they are uspside down though?! I wouldn't think so. Also, far as torque values and gaskets.... I looked at all the gaskets... They all look pretty good.... I reused like a bad boy.... Think they will be ok? And regarding torque... I couldn't get a torque wench in. So I estimated torque it may be just a tad more than required with locktite.... Will that be ok. Sorry I got a weekend planned and wade my expecting to ha e to pull the head. Now I'm in a rush..... Thanks in advanced yall
I would never reuse head gaskets or estimate torque values on the heads. Also never ever use loc-tite on head bolts!!!
Heads are a very integral part of the engine and can warp/crack if not properly torqued down in sequence and at the proper value. As for the rocker covers, again to avoid leaks and warpage, you should always torque them in sequence and at the proper value. I also always use new gaskets to ensure a proper seal.
Having said that, I would guesstimate torque on non-essential fasteners like the rear foot pegs or fender bolts. Also I would use loc-tight on those bolts as they are not part of the engine assembly.
Are there bolts on the engine that should have loc-tight? Yes there are and the service manual will spell those out nicely
Do not ever rush engine assembly!! Especially on a motorcycle
Yeah, dident use lock tit on head bolts, just faster era that called for it. I did torque those correctly what I coulee t torque exactly was the lower rocker box too left. Meg no but. I still got the gas tank off I suppose I should do it right :/ I'll go pay 60.00 for some head gasket at Sasebo H-D and throw em in. Thank for to common sense talk guys
