Default 2002 or 2014 Heritage

I am pretty new to the Harley world and am looking at getting a bike this year. I have found a 2002 heritage with about 15,000 for about $8k. Also have found a 2013 with 4,000mi for about $14k. Both bikes are stock.

My question is what are the differences? Is one more reliable? And which would be easier / cheaper to install performance upgrades if I decided to later. What about maintenance? does one or the other have a maintenance item that is a pain in the a$$?

Thanks for all your help.

2014 will have a bigger smoother engine, 6 speed and more elecronics (rpm gear indicator etc)

Another vote for the 2014, or is it a 2013?

I was going to buy a 2009 but the 103 was a expensive option and I couldn't afford it, when I looked at 2013 103 was std, I bought it. Not sure if 2002 is EFI or Carb, no way would I go carb unless you can do the maintenance.

Subject say's 2014, your post says 2013 so I posted about my 2013.

I have never looked back, so reliable, easy chrome add's.

I did a stage 1 with a custom tune not a factory download. I gained 12 ft pounds torque. Gave me an extra gear (could go up in 6th not downshifting to 5th) up the hills with a passenger.

cjgray, I don't know why no one has mentioned that if you put plenty of miles on the 2002, you will have to upgrade the camchain system. It is pretty costly. From 2007 on it was revised and much stronger.

2002 last year for the better timpkin bearings and forged crank. Probably carbed too which I love
Even more! Camchian tensoners are overblown, check them once in a while and if they get worn just
Replace the shoes or upgrade the cam chest.
