by-passing o2 sensors, is it true?

On my 2015 Fatboy, my mechanic told me that by setting an air/fuel ratio of say 13.9:1, via a SERT Pro, that because it is outside the limits of the narrow band sensor, that the bike won't go into closed loop, therefore the computer will accept the 13.9:1 setting, effectively by-passing the sensors. Is this true?

The short answer is yes but it gets more complicated than that

Check out the dyno room on this site and there is a ton of 411 on this under narrow band vs wide band sensors

Why not install some broadband O2 sensors instead of risking damage to the motor from an improper tune?

Mechanics make their money by fixing problems, not preventing them.

Hey Next not all mechanics are crooks. He gave good knowledge and let John make the call weather to get the sert or not. And for your info preventative maintenance saves money for the customer while making money at the same time.
