I have a deuce and love it, I got what I thought was a great deal on her a year ago ($4,500 one owner 4,500 miles perfect shape) since then I look every day on craigslist and one thing has become clear: softail deuce are the cheapest big twin you can buy on the used market, even behind super glides. Is there no love for the deuce?
You'll get used to reading "Not for Deuce' in parts books. While the Deuce can be difficult to find parts for, it's a great bike. I never understood why they didn't sell better. The last model years is 2007 so that in itself makes it a little more difficult to find parts. But, it's also cool to be riding something that not everybody and their brother is riding.
I've had my '06 from Nova Scotia to South Carolina and it's been pretty much trouble free.
$4500???? I've never seen one listed around here for less than $8500 and most are asking $10K plus for bikes in the 02-06 range. I would love to own one but around here people want good money for them. Same with Night Trains.
