For about six weeks (maybe longer) now I have noticed that at a red light or stop sign my idle would surge high sometimes and other times it would go so low I thought it would stall. Well, all it wants to do now is stall out.....it seems ok when it's cold but as soon as it gets some heat in it, it dies at idle. I limped up to the dealer with it and I have this feeling from talking to them that they are going to blame the issue on me installing the V&H slip-ons (about three weeks ago). First off, the surging started before I put the V&H's on. If this is the cause and I need tuned ...ok, I'll pay but I feel like they're just looking for any reason to charge me and not cover it on warranty. Since I put the V&H's on it has been running great.....no popping, no banging, nothing.....smooth. I guess one of my questions would be.......could it take any of the electronics in the fuel system this long to try to correct any change? It's a 07 Heritage with about 18,500 on it. Like I said, if it needs tuned because of the slip-ons, ok ......but.
Mine did this twice. Would slow idle and want to die, I'd rev it to keep it going. The turn signals quit self canceling. Usually when I slowed to a stop at a sign or light it ran terrible.
I changed the speed sensor and it fixed the problem.
I had a similar issue with my 08 Fatboy at about 18K miles. The bike would start fine, I'd ride down the street, slow down to stop at a light or stop sign and it would die. It would start right back up, run to the next one and do it again. I cleaned my Idle Air Control (IAC) valve and problem solved.
