Default Windshield, yea or nay

I've heard a windshield helps with not getting beat up by the wind and also helps with speed perception , as in can help take the fear out higher speed. I think it's just a matter of getting out there and riding and getting used to it but I can also see the perks as well . I have a 2004 Fatboy and just wanted to get some feedback. Thanks.

IMO, if you use the bike for short trips and stay off highways, the ride is more enjoyable without one. If you take long rides or cruise on highways and keep up with highway speed, then a windshield will make those rides more pleasant.

I forgot to add, if you ride in a State which does not require a helmet and ride without one, windshield will also pick up some of those nasty bugs hitting your face at full speed!

it knocks the wind off my body so I'm not fighting to sit up on the highway but still get a lot of wind on the face.

I put little wind deflector shields on all my cruisers. They function to keep some bugs and wind pressure off your chest and reduce the amount of bugs on my face shield (helmet 100% of time).

National Cycle is the one I get the most.

Useful no matter what the style of riding is.

this is my 13 Street Bob with a tinted one on it. Can barely be seen. It only raises to the top of the mini apes. This was just before leaving for Sturgis on it. It helps on the 80 mph run in S.D. interstate 90.

I have a quick detach windshield I use for long rides/touring. It's off around town.

I ride with a windshield all the time. It keeps the bugs off me and the wind pressure off my head and chest which reduces the strain on my arms to hold onto the handlebars.

The con is that I lose 1-2 mpg due to the wind resistance.

I can't stand the look or feel of the ride with a screen on. But I do have a Memphis Shades bullet for when I need to spend the whole day riding the motorway. It gets used about once a year. The rest of the time I'm not doing more than a few hours on the motorway. I hate motorways and try and find more interesting roads to ride in general.

If you choose handlebars which give you a slight forward lean, that will balance the wind pressure and take away most of the strain.

I'd rather have the wind, than have the buffeting I've experienced behind almost every windshield I have tried.
