If I can ever get a chance to really ride the bike for any miles I will try and experiment with the cap and maybe a few discs. As it is right now the sound is acceptable but I don't know how much better it can be. Maybe this weekend I can find out.
The closed end cap is quieter.
Mine runs best with 14 discs with the closed end cap, or 10 disks with the open end cap. I have Andrews 48 cams.
For tuning add or subtract 2-3 discs at a time and you should be able to feel a difference, see which way works best and fine tune.
I get a little better top end with the open end cap, and no noticeable loss of low end torque.
Wondering how much different the sound is between a 103 and a 96? Or if it is even noticeable? When I talked to Steve at Supertrapp he recommended using the 16 discs but also a closed cap. I went with the 16 discs but open cap.
At idle it is a throaty sound that I like. It isn't a tinny sound like I have read some people post about their 2:1's
On takeoff it just seems to mellow out. I am not really aware or annoyed by the tone as I go through the gears. I just need a longer ride to see if it wears on me.
