Noob here... I just purchased a stock 2014 Fatboy lo. It's my first Harley and I love it. I just wanted to know if a tuner would help performance/heat on the bike or is it not necessary if I haven't made any mods. One thing I noticed (which may be normal) is at idle my rpm fluctuates from 970-1060. Is this ok?
You can get by without a tuner and your bike will be fine. But it will perform better with a tuner even in stock form. I am extremely happy with my Power Vision tuner and after a few auto tune sessions my Stage 1 bike runs flawless. However, some people dont want to go through the process of learning how to use it. And I get that. Idle fluctuations are normal.

You will be fine with it OEM and it will last a good long time with proper maintenance......
BUT.......
If you even think you may want to do some mods in the future, I'd go PowerVision. They have improved stock tunes which are just that... then you can easily learn to do a few auto tunes to dial that tune into your engine's specific VE, volumetric efficiency.
The bike WILL run better, you will have some fun doing the auto tunes (and like me, maybe get bit by the bug to learn more about this EFI tuning stuff), you'll have map support for just about any mod or combination of mods you ever decide to do, and should you ever decide to sell this bike, for $199 you can then add any new Harley you may buy to your tuner....

Also from what I understand, some places will offer support for the tuner if you buy from them and build you tunes based on the hardware modifications you make to the bike. I plan on buying from Fuel Moto shortly for this reason. Seems like their is a fairly big learning curve on the PV and I like knowing I can email Fuel Moto and they will get you going with a tune.
