Why should they back down on the price?

It is still a brand new motorcycle with a warranty.

It still looks and functions like the 2016 model.

Because it is coming up on being two years old. They need to move the bikes. On top of that, book value on a one or two year old bike is less than a 2017 or even 2016 model, regardless of mileage or if it has been titled or not. Most people will need financing. Banks will finance a vehicle for what it is valued at, which on a 2015 will be less. Therefore, the purchaser will have to make up the difference. Who wants to buy a bike that is worth $15,000 for $18,000 when right next to it is a newer model for the same price and the selling price is the same as the value? More simply, why pay $18,000 for a $15,000 bike when you can pay $18,000 for an $18,000 bike that is parked right next to it. Harley rarely makes drastic changes to bikes and when they do, it is a small displacement increase of around 7 or 8 cubic inches every few years, and every 17 years or so, then there is a new engine design. We are at the new engine design point right now.

Already they are being pressured to move the 15's because they have been sitting there so long. In rolls the 2017's which there is a certain crowd that needs to have the latest and greatest will buy, thus making the 2016 a slower seller. That 2015 is still sitting there looking less and less attractive at the same price it was when it was unloaded off the truck. Knock a couple of thousand off or so, then the 2015 is a more attractive bike to buy.

So, no, a 2015 is NOT a new bike.

Agree, really like you mentioned before they try and screw you with the set up and delivery fees anyhow. That's how they pad their margin to the point of silly. They might give you a discount on the MSRP but will get it back on the mysterious set up and delivery charges which they can price at whatever they want no matter what year bike. This is something you have to try and negotiate down more than anything.

Not sure what the 2015 has to do with the OPs question, He is asking about a slim s the bike that is more like a CVO then the 103 slim right? They my change the 2017 but the 2016 slim s stands on its own as a great cruiser motorcycle so go for it if you like the green one expecially, they probably won't make it for 2017

Rarely, if ever, a model is built for one single year.

Dude I'd just wait for the 17's. More than not being patient payoffs.

If that includes tax, title, and license as well as setup and delivery charges and the rest of the b.s. they add on, then that is a fair price. Again, if it is all inclusive.

Next year, the Softails will likely get the new engine.
