After washing my wifes 2011 heritage the entire gauge panel on top the tank is dead. None of the indicator lights work ( turn signal, oil pressure, high beam etc.) As well as the speedometer and back lights for it. Basically everything. It came back to life on a ride the same day after about 30 minutes of riding. Then worked great until we stopped and then the same thing on the way home. Dead but came back. Figure water in somewhere. Loss of ground? Or main power supply lead? The ignition switch does work as does the fuel gauge. And the bike is otherwise unaffected and works normal.
I've checked the connection plugs under the panel and what I can get at under the seat but nothing. Then all by itself as I'm sitting there frustrated everything just comes on normal then 20 seconds later out again.
Any suggestions? The water I got on the bike was no more than getting caught in the rain. just not sure where to look anymore.
No the readout for that is out as well. Funny that it is intermittent.but out near all the time. The LCD readout witch requires minimal power will partially blink in time with the seconds of the clock when I first turn on the key but then goes blank again. And sometimes when riding it will all come on . I'm at a loss.
Nope the LCD display is out as well. The whole panel on top the tank. Just like there's no power other than the ignition switch still working as normal.
I think Prot is right. It worked just fine before you washed it. You got water somewhere that it shouldn't be. Go get a can of air at Wal-mart (in electronics section) take the dash off and clean the ignition switch and all the connectors. Use the can of air to make sure very thing is dry.
The panel does work intermittently. If I repeatedly push the trip button after 20 or more times the odometer comes on and then everything works normal. But not for long. I did get two codes. One for the speed sensor and the other for a power relay. Does anyone know where the power relay is located on this 2011 heritage? The speed sensor is in a ridiculously hard place to get at but at least I know where it is.
For the speed sensor, drop the back wheel, take out the ECM, and it's there on top of the transmission housing. May as well replace it while you're there even if it is just the connector. About a $50 part.
