I was riding the other day with a group; one guy was riding a 2014 CVO Ultra that he's trying sell for $28K, one guy was on another newer Ultra 2013?, I was on my 09 Heritage and 4th guy was on a 1200 Sportster.

We all left at the same time and we all got to the party at the same time.

The guy that has the CVO is still paying on it.

My Heritage is all mine.
The Sportster is also paid for.

Point I'm trying to make is I'm with you in that I'll never buy a new bike, I too can't justify paying $20K plus for a non-essential means of enjoyment.
I bought my 09 Heritage in 2012 and reluctantly financed it for 24 months.
I will likely never buy another bike without paying cash for it,

Sounds to me that the bike is speaking to you.
I'd see if the Dealer would throw in at least a 12 month warranty and if so I'd pull the trigger on it.

I think the price is a little high, I think you could do better, but certainly not a deal breaker. If you are comfortable with the dealer and the bike, I say go for it!

I have an '03 Heritage I've owned since new and love it... It's a great bike and with the mileage you ride per year, it will last your forever...

Most have the cam tensioners replaced between 20K & 30K...... I did mine at 20k and they could have gone much farther, but why roll the dice...

I have a big bore kit in my bike and am pleased with the performance so I avoided upgrading everything in the cam chest. I opted to just replace the shoes with Cyco shoes. Like you, I don't put a lot of mileage on my Heritage, I have a bagger for the long trips. The Cyco shoes were cheap to replace (didn't even have to remove cams from cam plate) and will last many years at my mileage.

Good luck with the purchase and enjoy!!!

Well, I pressured the salesman about the cam chain tensioner inspection and turns out, they didn't inspect it, the service manager said that because of the low miles he is sure they are fine. Guess I will be riding the FXD a bit longer. I asked them to waraanty "his assurance" for 2 years, we know how that went. The asking price was a little high and now that I know they were a little shady with their talk about the service I will keep looking, shame but thats is how it goes.

If you ride 6K a year an the bike has 10K on it you can ride for 3 years without worrying about the cam tension pads. I had an 05 TC an the indy shop by me said it was fine for the gear drive cams. he said the 88 inch cranks were fine but the earlier ones were stronger. You're paying more for it from the dealer but you may get some sort of warranty if you find anything wrong with it in the first 30-90 days.

Interesting that they wouldn't sacrifice less than 15 minutes and a gasket to make the sale. Looks like they're waiting for the next naive and uniformed guy to walk in and buy it...

This is how I saw it to. Either inspect them or don't but don't tell me they are fine and then after some pressure, say well the service manager "thinks" they are fine. When they won't be 100% upfront when I asked the specific question, what else is there, maybe nothing but the risk would be all mine.

Yeah, they lost all credibility after lying about something so simple. They should have been up front.

What else are they lying about.........?

I wouldn't do business with them either....
