Default 2016 Heritage Softail Classic

I purchased a softail a couple of months ago and have put 2500 miles on it. I am new to Harley's but everything that I have read states that they come from the factory set really lean. I may or may not put a slip on and new air cleaner on next spring. My question to you is would the bike benefit from a fp3 tuner as it is now, stock? Will the bike run cooler? Any other benefits? I was thinking the fp3 tuner so I have it in case I do a stage 1 upgrade next Spring. Thanks for your honest I put.

If youre going to do both...slipons and air cleaner...yes you need a tuner. I use a Power Vision but the FP3 gets great reviews here to. Youll pick up some HP and tourque and it will help cool it down. And yes it would benefit if stock to...richen it up and cool it down some.

2016 Heritage: Power Vision tuner, running Stock Improved tune by Fuel Moto... noticeable improvement.

When I had my new '12 Heritage 103 my first call was to Amer Customs for some de-catted stock mufflers with baffles. Next stop was a Dealer's Stage 1 SE Air and map. No more heat!...just normal and ran great! A course use your tuner.
My big reason for buying the gutted "stock mufflers" is that the right numbers are on the pipe and who knows the cat is out of the bag. I know, who looks at the numbers, they do, depending where you're at. Bad rumors going around about certain cities, like Denver checking and others.

They come from the factory set to the EPA's emissions compliant requirements. It is against federal law to tamper with any emissions/exhaust for on road use in the US since 1975. $10K fine per violation.

No individual has ever been prosecuted yet but companies have. Don't worry as EPA will eventually be in everyone's garage someday. They want the $ and to keep expanding their empire. More offices, more employees, more supervisors. It will never end.

And NO you won't need a tuner. Yes for a short time the engine will be leaner. However the ECM will periodically check the AFR against the 14.6:1 standard programmed into it and revert back to that. The ECM and all the sensors (8 or 9) are there to keep the engine in compliance. You must go down stream of the ECM and fool it.

I look for the manufacturers of the tuners to be next on the list for suing after EPA's success with H-D, V&H, West Coast Choppers and two other big exhaust makers.

I thought about the tuner route for future Heritage, but that's a ton of cash if that's all your going to do. On my old heritage I just put the Xieds on it and after about 150 miles for the ECM to sort things out she ran like a champ. Everything smoothed out. Come spring when I dump the dyna for another heritage I'll grab a newer set of Xieds. For all I plan on doing that's just fine. Opinions vary.

I did the Stage One to my 2016 Heritage...very happy with the improvements.

I have some comments about what I did and my results later on in my post here:
