Default 2012 Heritage, basic 103 upgrades?

I'm getting a 2012 Heritage Softail Classic, so looking for thoughts on basic 103 upgrades; exhaust and tuner?

Are the cats in the head pipes or the mufflers? Thinking if in the mufflers then just new slip on's will be good enough of an exhaust upgrade.

Tuner: SERT, Power Commander, or get a TTS & professional dyno tune?

My goal is better sound (not loud), cooler running, and a decent bump up in torque / HP.

When do you expect power over 3000 rpms?

Did you have power over 3K before the upgrades?

Inquiring minds want to know.

First I'd talk to whoever U going to have do the work.. MOst tuners have fav picks of theirs.

Next to give U a decent answer we need to know How U ride..
Two up. solo,, mostly in town/county, mostly Hiway, U want Low-mid TQ or mid-High Rpm TQ.??????

All this makes a big DIFF on what to suggest U get..

over all I, personallly, do like the SERT or SEPRT/TTS Master tune because thats what our dealerships master tuner on the dyno is best at...

Well, my main question was are the cats for a 2012 Heritage in the mufflers or the head pipes. That will tell me if I need just slip ons or a full exhaust to get rid of the cats.

I ride solo and figure with 103 cubes to begin with I won't need or want much more than to cool it down a little and add some umph. Not looking for the biggest dyno numbers. I cruise around town or hit the interstates at 75 mph on a trip.

DCRANER - there are no cats in the headpipes of the 2012 softails or at least there weren't any in my 2012 Deluxe.

O/k, so they must be in the stock mufflers, and a slip on change would eliminate the cats?

Thanks.

Yes. If the 2012 softails heritage and deluxe have cats they must be located in the mufflers. The headpipes are empty.
