How about posting a pic of your dent. It would help in giving you a little advise. What color is the bike? I know color doesn't matter in fixing the dent, but will help with my response. If it's a solid color, check your local body shops. Metal is metal, and all can be repaired the same way. For the cost of a new factory tank, already painted, you could easily get the tank repaired and a little custom work done on it. Say it is black and you like it that way. Get the guy to repair the dent, and throw in a graphic or something just on the tank. A little ghost flame or something. Cost will be under what a replacement HD tank is and it will be nicer. Just a thought.

..that's a first..I have never seen a dent of any size that didn't require either replacement or bodywork andpaint.. seen ton's of riders ask about "popping" dents out but never seen one that was successful.
Later

trust me it was a 2 inch dent and he worked it out by putting rods in the tank and pushing it out. It only cost 125 dollars. At the same time he went to the dealer he fixed a 4 inch dent a customer made by dropping his bike. You may havebeen in the bodywork field but operantly you never heard of the paint less dent removal that company's are doing now. They do miracles with cars that are tore up by hail.

07fxstcustom you need to contact one of those companies or a dealer and they should know someone. This man went to school for this and he specialized in bikes.

yeah..right..glad it worked out for you..and yes I've heard of paintless dent removal..can work on flat surfaces, just have never seen it work on the curved surfaces of tank....much less getting any rods to work through gas tank fill is doubtful. Most paintless dent removal is done with suction cup type pullers...but if it's cheap he might want to give it a try..maybe dent removal guy can try it and not charge if he's unsucessful.

After i had such good luck with my tank, i had two Friends make a appointment with this man.The man made a 1 hour trip to my brother in laws house to do the work. One Friend canceled. The other job he was going to do was a gas tank that was dented all the way in the back of the tank next to the seat. It was at the sharpest curve of the tank. He was unsuccessful. He said he couldn't fix it because it was so far in the tank. HE DIDN'T CHARGE A DIME.
Talking with this man he makes over 100,000 dollars a year doing this.
He fixed a mans bike at the dealer that had a dent as big as a grapefruit in it and you could not tell. The dent was so bad that the paint cracked at the dent. When he was done the paint crack closed up and you couldn't tell. It amazed me.

I have never heard of paint less dent fixes that involve suction cups. What i am talking about sure is not that. I could not even see how someone could take a dent out of a flat piece of metal with a suction cup.

Check these web sites out. Especially the first two. They are companies that fix motorcycle gas tanks. The second two shows you the tools. They are rods.

Technology has really improved in the last five years. It has alot to do with the new paints can flex alot more without poping off of the metal.

Get a stick-on "bullet hole" to cover it up and live with it...people will think you actually ride it....

If the dent was grapefruit size and also caused the paint to crack I'm sure the dent wasn't "fixed".... yea it might have looked good, but I'm sure moisture could penetrate and cause rust/corrosion and the tank would eventually look like crap over time.

Absolutlty what i thought. He may get a couple of years before a paint job if he kept it waxed good. He probly sold it to some ususpecting individual.

I went to the site and checked their "before & after" photos. There's an example of a Harley tank they did. Very impressive.
