So I ordered a new Corbin seat off their "build-your-own" site and I received the order a week ago here in Canada. It took a little while to get here but that's okay, they let me know that when I ordered it and it's winter here anyways, so not much riding.
I really didn't change too much on the seat other than adding a braided welt and going with the bomber-black on the seating surface and I'm happy with the quality of the seat except for one problem....
They shipped it to me with a small rip or tear on the back! It's not much of a rip and I had thought about just letting it slide but for the price I paid ($790.47 + brokerage fees) they can send me what I ordered.... a new seat with no bloody rips.
I've been playing phone tag and email tag with both the rep who originally helped me (Janice) and her manager (Jessica) for a week now and so far. The manager finally emailed me back today and tells me she talked to her shop guys and that there was no way QC would have let that go and it must have been done in shipment. I have the box and all the wrapping here and there is not a single problem anywhere on the packaging..... even the bag it was wrapped in has no punctures or rips. She said the best they could do was have me pay "again" to ship the seat back to them to fix. She said because I was from Canada, they would not cover the shipping costs or reimburse for them.
Am I out to lunch here? I don't think I should be paying squat for anything seeing how they shipped it from factory with a blemish. Their customer service has been the most brutal of any company I have ever dealt with. The receptionist screens all incoming calls and then makes an excuse as to why nobody can talk to me..... and a week to get back to an email after having to go to the service manager? Come on! You can bet your *** this Canadian won't be buying anything from Corbin again! Here are the pics of the seat and the blemish....
Pay with a credit card? Put a hold on the charges, and they'll likely change their attitude.
You paid premium money for a quality seat. You aren't satisfied. Let them make it right with the shipper
Yes, it was paid through my visa but the payment came out a month ago as they had to build the seat. The stop-payment would have been the thing to do if it was an option.

Do it anyway.. Credit Card companies have a lot of pull with vendors. A company that does mail-order business needs to have a good rep. with CC companies. If the card companies end up spending too much time dealing with unhappy customers (if it is not profitable for them) they can choose to drop the vendor. Running a mail-order business without being able to accept Visa is not a good business model.
If it was a bargain kind of product, I'd say "you got what you paid for." But when you pay top dollar (or pretty close) you should demand quality.
Don't you have a month post actual statement to dispute it?
I would be hacked off royally, even if it was from shipping (looks like it was rubbing on something or dropped) it could not have happened in shipping if it was properly packed.
Yup, I'd be pretty upset as well. For 800 plus brokerage BS I expect to get 800 worth of seat. I'd raise holy hell myself and usually I'm one to let things slide unless it's just insulting.
Send an e-mail to them with a link to this thread.. How many enthusiasts does this site have, that now know that Corbin seats are to be avoided because their customer service sucks. On the other hand, if they make it right, that's pretty good PR.
BTW.. besides the nick, that is a beautiful seat right there, one I might otherwise consider purchasing.
Boy, you're not alone on their customer service. I live in Alaska and ordered the seat I wanted for my Fatboy Lo. I had requested no stitching in the seat because I live on the coast and we have more than our share of rain. Well the guy that was building the seat called and reaffirmed that I didn't want any stitching in the seat which I confirmed and he said they couldn't guarantee the foam sticking to the seat because of some California law about the type of glue they used wasn't that great. I've been using their seats on every bike I've owned in my 36 years of owning Harleys and never had much of a problem. Long story short the seat showed up with stitching in the seat. Called, emailed, left messages, no one replied. This seat is wearing out with seam separations on the beading. Their quality has gone down also so will not do anymore business with them. It's a shame to cause you do have a great looking seat.
