some one in the evo section would know for sure but the early softail shocks were 84 to like 88, then 89-99...they change how they mount to the swing are in 2000. I think the early have diff length of travel an they had the remote reservoirs.

Good info!!

They have the remote reservoir so 1984-88 narrows it down.

Thanks
Randy

You don't "need" to wait til you get a spanner wrench...sure it's nice and makes things easy and quick. But you only need to come up with some way to grip the outer barrel that those holes are in. Come up with some home-made way to turn it til you can find a spanner wrench.

I'VE GOT IT! Get a wrench designed for the removal of oil filters. Mine has a rubber belt that can be removed and wrapped around the shock. I actually have a good one that I have used on several things. (one thing was to unscrew the lens on a rear blinker) My bet is this will work!

I found an angle grinder wrench today.

I might be able to make it work.!!

The actual Softail tool is only $20.00 or less, I just see so many listed I got confused.

It seems like 94448-82B is the one most likely to work, just need to find one locally.

Thanks
Randy

you may want to cross post this question in the evo section...lots of guys with the older frames knows what fits what an what can be tweaked to use for a frame it wasn't made for. some aftermarket shocks with res were adj with a **** on the res too....if you're just looking for the adj tool that's one thing...if buying shocks I'd post over there an get some opinions.

I'm new to the softail world but the rubber strap oil filter wench was what I thought of to use. I have basically the same thing in a kitchen drawer to remove stubborn lids. Now to find a 1&1/16 wench. My 2016 Deluxe is still factory set.

I think I found the tool I need at a local HD shop.

Thanks
