Default Trani drain

I got my new / old 1st time harley owner bike home today. Its been sitting for 3 years. Started with a wash, and saw all the WORK she is going to need. I started with a 3 hole lube change, and got engine & primary drained, but cant find the TRANI DRAIN PLUG. Parts guy at local HD Shop looked at his book, and told me it is under the bottom, in between the 2 rear shocks. I put bike on Bike Lift and I see some bolts / hex hardware under there but looks more like brackets and mounting stuff. ANY HELP on drain plug location on a 96 Fat Boy appreciated?? I ordered a service manual, but it will be a few days. Here is my 1st Harley. Got a lot to learn.

Congrats! That bike really looks special. Having the service manual for your bike always is a good idea.....but you could probably find some helpful vids on YouTube, too

Here ya go (1996 Fat Boy)

Evo is under the trans cover which would be right next to that mid floorboard you got there.

I spent way too much time trying to locate my transmission drain plug as well. The Factory HD service manual for 85-90 machines says there is one mounted between the shocks and the factory parts diagram shows one too, but the only drain I found for my '88 is like the OP found, on the side of the tranny under the side cover...Live and Learn.

RED, ME TOO. I spent over an hour crawling around under there trying to see and fit a socket (no way) and then a alan wrench in those 3 or 4 bolts down between the shocks. I went to the local HD dealer and he looked it up in his book with me looking at it with him. Diagram shows underneath between shocks, but he warned of 1 bolt under there to make sure to not take out. Then got on here and another forum and response was the same, "in between the 2 shocks". Crazy. Grateful to hspring 03 and this forum for the info / help. Going to be on here a lot this winter as this is my 1st Harley, and going to be taking her apart to clean / inspect / restore what she needs.
