Default What would you do?

I have a 2012 heritage classic with 13k miles. Just got back from a ride putting 3k miles from Daytona to West Texas. Not a single problem. Bike started stalling at lights a week after I got back and seemed to run a little sluggish. No codes and no unusual sounds. Took it to dealer and tech tells me my flywheel is disintegrating and taking the crank with it. He is advising a short block purchase from Harley and a rebuild. It is stock 103 with a stage 1 V&H pipes, V&H Naked air and FP3 tuner. Rebuild would be between 3k and 6k dollars leaning towards middle of those numbers. Any advice? I bought the bike used in Jan 2016 with 3k miles on it. Fix it and keep it, or fix it and sell it? Or beat it to death with a hammer.

First I'd get a second opinion just to make sure the cause of the problem is correct.
Assuming the second opinion matches the first, I don't think you have much choice but to get it fixed.

If you sell it you will likely get less for it than it will cost to fix it.
That is if you can find somebody to buy it.

No unusual vibrations? If the crank is going, I would assume it make all kinds of crazy vibrations and noises.

Try cleaning the IAC in the throttle body with throttle body cleaner, not carb cleaner.

I would find a indie shop and tell him what issues you are having without tell him what the dealership said.

X2

It sounds to me like the dealer is bullshitting you into trading it in for a new bike.

Agreed. It sounds more like a dirty IAC than the crank. Sounds like a dirty dealer too IMO

It has already been mentioned, but I'd try and get a 2nd opinion and go from there.

Always do the simple things first like cleaning the IAC and also run Chevron's Techron through a couple tank fulls.

Then check both ends of the neg and pos cables.

Wouldn't hurt to clean and gap the plugs either.

The diagnosis just doesn't have the ring of truth about it.

Agree, with all of the above.

Get a 2nd & 3rd opinion.

Then, if you find out it is a dirty IAC (which it sounds like), get an EBS on that thing to help prevent it from happening again.

This is good advice. This motor is not noted for internal issues as noted. A second opinion is in order.
