I have a 2002 Night Train. The outer primary cover has the oval removable cover like a Dyna, is there a way to tell if the inner primary cover has the hole in it like the Dyna has so that you can feed the gear shift linkage through. I'm asking because I would like to mid controls on but if need to replace the inner primary cover I may forgo this mod for now.

Thanks for any input/idea's
I fitted Mids to my '09 Softail Custom last year using the existing inner primary cover, just had to drill out the boss in the casting and insert a bush.
Remove the outer primary and you should be able to see the boss in the casting.
I removed the inner primary not only for drilling and inserting the new bush but also to be able to install the Dyna Mid controls linkage.
I used a drill press but it almost ended in disaster!
Mines a budget entry machine and unfortunately it suffers with a lot of chuck runout and drilled oversize and I couldn't use the new HD Bush.
With the inner and outer primary covers off the bike I bolted them back together and inserted a drill bit through the outer primary to correctly mark and pilot drill the inner cover.
Forgot to mention the drilling in the inner primary cover is deep enough to accept 2 x bushes (one at either end). The extra bush ensures selector shaft will fit like a glove with no radial play.
