My 07 deluxe starts hard Hot, afterrefueling bike or myself, if it sits for 5or 10 min it cranks long and backfires if you do not crack throttle on restart.
Anyone else have this?
The 07s start differently than prior HD models for many reasons. I don't crack my throttle to start as I am running a DTT but it will sort of backfire on start up. It seems to be common with the new year.
Only had that problem once when I got gas. I think I turned the key on to check the gauge reading and then turned the key off. I think on the efi system it gives it a shot of fuel each time it pumps up to pressure before starting. In my case it got two shots and had to crank quite a bit and it backfired in the muffler, but did start eventually. I find that it usually does not start as quickly when hot compared to first startup of the day . Maybe a couple more compression strokes than cold. Since discovering that switch on and off thing I have not had the problem since.

Mine seems to be about the same as yours Curlingace, definetly cranks longer on warm starts and backfires a bit. I plan on having them look at that when I have it in for the 1000 mile service and cable recall.

Mine does the same thing. The starter works harder when hot. When cool or sits for awhile, it turns right over.
badbowties55, what cable is recalled and on what model and year?

It's a battery cable on the '07 softy's. It can wear against the battery box and short out. Lot's of guys having trouble with their braided oil lines catching fire. eeks..[]
yeah the battery cable is what the recall is for on softail models, there are many threads on that subject on here. But the hard starting thing still gets me, I always wait til the light goes off to start the bike, sometimes if I turn the key on and if I wait for someone else to get started or something then start it, it doesnt seem to take as long to fire. I was wondering if all of us that are having this problem have bikes that have a/f pipes or other add ons. If the factory updates to the comp have something to do with this? I also know there was an update to the comp. since so many people were lugging the new bikes in sixth gear that they bumped the idle up and changed some other mapping. Just don't know yet as to what will fix this. like I said before I hope to find out more soon since I need to get the bike in for service.
