Have an 09 Fatbob and just picked up an 09 Softtail. Though they have the same engine, very different bikes. A lot of mechanical engine noise on the Heritage, compared to FatBob, which has no engine/mechanical noise.
Of course the big diff. is rubber mount vs hard mount. FatBob vibrates but Softtail feels like a railroad car. Gonna take some getting used to but I definitely wear a full face helmet when riding the softy to mitigate the engine noise. Looking for slightly louder pipes to drown out the engine noise, but so far everything I've tried is way too loud.
Love the Softy though, because it's old-school Harley and does have a sweet spot as all bikes do, where engine vibration is minimal.
A Thunderheader will drown out the secondary chain noise of the B- Motor.
Or VH straight shots.
But yeah, with stk exh or screaming chicken mufflers, the whir is noticeable
I have a '14 slim and my dad has a '11 fatbob and it's the opposite for us mine has less noise, rides much smoother and his vibrates like crazy mine barely does.
