Default Replace Shocks on 1992?

I have 50K miles on a 1992 Heritage. I was planning to replace front and rear shocks for the purpose of improving handling. I was assuming that the original suspension must be getting tired by now.

Mechanic says that it is sitting right and I should not bother. What do you think? I do not have enough experience to know whether it is handling as it should or not.

What do you think? Worth it?

fresh fork oil in the front may be all you need....I'm changing the fork oil before riding season an installing a set of works shocks I got off ebay for a great price.

A fork job with new oil (10wt), seals and bushings is what I would do up front. Out back if you wanted an improved ride you could install some Progressive 422's, these will make the bike handle a lot better and give you the option to lower the rear end a bit from 4x4 status...

Go to the dealer and test ride a newer one, then go home and put on 422's.

Here`s how I brought my `89 up to snuff:

Replaced the springs, seals and bushings up front.

Works shocks on the rear (they will build them custom for your needs, and they can be rebuilt).

Front fork oil and maybe new front springs if the stock ones are beat up. Stock harley type e is 5wt so I would go 10wt.

I ordered Progressive 422 and new Progressive fork springs. Waiting to hear when they come in.

Hoping I will notice a difference.

I'm digging my 422 RAPs.
If you didn't get the RAPs and you switch between 1 and 2 up I highly recommend you cancel your 422 order and order the 422 RAPs.

I did a review on 422 RAPs in the Summer of 2014.

I did not order the RAP since I do not ride two up. I do not even have a passenger seat. If I do any traveling, it will be with less than 50 lbs of gear so I am thinking I will not need to mess with the preload.
