My bags on my 97 Heritage Springer are losing their shape. I am looking for good suggestions to push them back out and re-create their shape. Right now i have them stuffed as much as possible with towels but am looking for other ideas
I purchased plastic inserts on ebay that help keep the shape and work well and are cheap. Gotsaggybags.com offers a full glue in system but you have to send the bags to them for intallation. http://www.gotsaggybags.com/mm5/merc..._Code=Springer
Try this guy on eBay. He doesn't have any listed at the moment but contact him. He has slip in stiffeners made of ABS plastic for the bags and the lids. Work great! No gluing.
On the lid part, drill out the two rivets under the straps, jam the lid supports in behind the plastic piece on the lid then drill a hole through to the insert. Use binding post screws (chicago screws) to hold the inserts. They will blow out if you don't close the bag. If you need pics, let me know.
You also need to treat the leather with your choice of treatment - Obenaufs, Lexol, Meguiars, etc., then use Doc Bailey's in the interim periods. Doc Bailey's also has black dye in the treatment to freshen up the look and provides water protection. Water beads up on my bags. 103K miles and the bags look almost new.

Definitely post pics of your bags and the stiffeners, please.
Do the stiffeners in the bags slide in or glue in? I use harley leather treatment or McGuire's frequently. And my bike doesnt sit outside much so that helps
